Steel Canvas artist Victor M. Griswold, my great, great grandfather, and his brother, Casimir Clayton
Griswold, were master painters and inventors in the mid to late 1800’s. I have in my personal collection three of Victor’s original works: the painting
entitled “Walk With Me,” his book entitled “Hugo Blanc the Artist,” and the Griswold coat of arms. These family treasures have influenced me tremendously. After reading “Hugo Blanc the Artist,” I knew that art was my life’s
work. Victor’s book helped me to understand where my gift came from and
what I should do with it. Victor wrote. “All that we have is a gift from
our divine maker, and we must strive to bring glory to Him in all that we do. My first
studio/gallery, Leipers Fork Flintlocks, was in Leipers Fork Tennessee from 1999-2006.
During that time, I created fine flintlock rifles, powder horns, hunting pouches, and money clips. And I originated the STEEL CANVAS. These new works are created from photographs and
scenes of my own inspiration. The process uses a sheet of steel as the canvas,
layering bronze, brass, copper, silver and gold to create the image. The art
of hand engraving is executed by meticulously cutting each line under a stereo microscope achieving the feel of motion and
life in each work. After taking a two year break to work on the refining process
of my creation, STEEL CANVAS, I am now accepting orders for steel canvas fine art. My current work can be viewed at www.leipersforkflintlocks.com or at the web site of Suzanne Fitch www.suzannefitch.com. Orders for custom work or purchases from my current inventory can be
made through Suzanne Fitch Gallery or by contacting me directly. Thank you for your interest in Steel Canvas Art. Greg S. Murry 615-791-1747 | gmurry50@gmail.com
